Brake assist
The Brake Assist system in the Nissan Armada is designed to enhance braking performance during emergency situations. When the system detects that the driver is applying the brake pedal with significant force, it automatically increases braking pressure beyond what a conventional brake booster would provide, even if the pedal is not fully depressed.
This advanced feature in the Nissan Armada helps reduce stopping distances in critical moments by ensuring maximum braking force is applied as quickly as possible, supporting safer driving under sudden braking conditions.
WARNING
The Nissan Armada Brake Assist system is intended solely as a support feature and must not be relied upon as a collision warning or avoidance system. The driver remains fully responsible for maintaining awareness, controlling the vehicle, and driving safely at all times.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
Basic information
WARNING
Stopping distances may be longer on wet, icy, gravel, or snow-covered roads—even with ABS active. The same applies when using tire chains. Always maintain a safe following distance and adjust your driving to road conditions. The driver of the Nissan Armada is ultimately responsible for safe operation.
The ABS system in the Nissan Armada prevents the wheels from locking during heavy braking or when braking on slippery surfaces. It continuously monitors wheel speed and adjusts brake fluid pressure to maintain traction and stability.
By preventing wheel lockup, the Nissan Armada ABS allows the driver to maintain steering control, helping to avoid obstacles and reducing the likelihood of skidding or spinning.
Using the system
Press the brake pedal firmly and maintain steady pressure when braking in the Nissan Armada.
Do not pump the brake pedal. The ABS system automatically modulates brake pressure to prevent wheel lockup.
Continue steering the Nissan Armada as needed to avoid hazards while braking.
WARNING
Do not pump the brake pedal in a Nissan Armada equipped with ABS, as this can increase stopping distances and reduce braking effectiveness.
Self-test feature
The Nissan Armada ABS system includes sensors, hydraulic components, and an onboard computer that performs a self-diagnostic test each time the engine is started and the vehicle begins moving at low speed.
During this self-test, you may hear a brief "clunk" sound or feel a slight pulsation in the brake pedal. This is normal and confirms that the system is functioning correctly.
If a malfunction is detected, the Nissan Armada will disable ABS and illuminate the ABS warning light. In this case, the braking system will continue to operate normally but without anti-lock functionality.
If the ABS warning light remains on during driving, the Nissan Armada should be inspected as soon as possible. It is recommended to visit an authorized NISSAN dealer for diagnosis and repair.
Normal operation
The ABS system in the Nissan Armada typically operates at speeds above approximately 3 to 6 MPH (5 to 10 km/h), depending on road conditions.
When the system detects that one or more wheels are about to lock, it rapidly applies and releases brake pressure. This action may cause a pulsation in the brake pedal, as well as noise or vibration from the engine compartment.
These sensations are normal and indicate that the Nissan Armada ABS is actively working to maintain traction and control. However, they may also signal slippery or hazardous road conditions, so extra caution should be exercised.
