Nissan Armada 2025-2026 Owner's Manual: Engine protection mode

The Nissan Armada is equipped with an advanced engine protection mode designed to help prevent engine damage when operating under extreme conditions. This system activates when engine coolant temperature rises excessively, such as during towing heavy loads, driving uphill, or operating in high ambient temperatures.

When the engine temperature in your Nissan Armada reaches a critical threshold, the system will automatically initiate protective measures:

As a result of this protective mode, both engine performance and vehicle speed in the Nissan Armada may decrease. While you can still control speed using the accelerator pedal, the vehicle may not respond with normal acceleration. The transmission may automatically adjust by shifting gears based on predefined parameters, or manual shifting can be used if necessary.

Once driving conditions improve and the engine coolant temperature decreases, the Nissan Armada will gradually restore normal engine performance. The air conditioning system will also automatically resume normal operation.

If the following conditions occur:

1. The engine coolant temperature does not decrease.

2. The air conditioning system does not reactivate.

3. The engine oil pressure warning light Nissan Armada engine oil pressure warning light icon illuminates or the coolant temperature gauge remains near the H position.

This may indicate a serious issue with your Nissan Armada. In such cases, safely pull the vehicle off the road and allow the engine to cool down. After checking oil and coolant levels, if the warning light Nissan Armada engine warning indicator icon remains illuminated or the temperature does not return to normal, do not continue driving. Contact an authorized Nissan Armada dealer immediately for inspection and service.

The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) Nissan Armada malfunction indicator light icon may also illuminate. In most cases, towing is not required unless the light remains on continuously, but the Nissan Armada should be inspected as soon as possible to prevent further issues.

WARNING

Engine overheating in the Nissan Armada may lead to reduced power and lower driving speeds. This reduction can create dangerous situations, especially in fast-moving traffic. If the vehicle cannot maintain a safe speed, carefully move to the side of the road and stop in a secure location. Allow the engine to cool before resuming driving.

CAUTION

Operating the Nissan Armada engine while the engine oil pressure warning light is illuminated can cause severe engine damage within a very short time. Such damage is typically not covered under warranty. Turn off the engine immediately when it is safe to do so.

The Nissan Armada engine protection system plays a critical role in preserving engine longevity, ensuring reliability, and helping drivers respond safely to high-temperature operating conditions.
