The pretensioner system in the Nissan Armada is designed to work in coordination with the supplemental air bag system during certain types of collisions. Its primary function is to tighten the seat belts instantly, helping to secure occupants firmly in their seats.
By reducing slack in the seat belt, the Nissan Armada pretensioner system enhances occupant restraint for both front and second row outboard passengers, improving overall crash protection.
The pretensioner mechanism is integrated into the seat belt retractor and buckle anchor assembly. Despite this advanced technology, the seat belts in the Nissan Armada are used in the same manner as conventional seat belts.
When the pretensioner activates, a loud noise may be heard, accompanied by a small amount of smoke. This smoke is not harmful and does not indicate a fire. However, inhalation should be avoided as it may cause temporary irritation. Individuals with respiratory sensitivities should move to fresh air promptly.
Following activation, the load limiter function in the Nissan Armada allows the seat belt to slightly release tension if necessary. This helps reduce excessive force on the chest and lowers the risk of injury.
The supplemental air bag warning light
is used to monitor the condition of the pretensioner system in the Nissan Armada.
If this warning light indicates a malfunction, the system must be inspected immediately. It is recommended to have the Nissan Armada checked by an authorized NISSAN dealer to ensure proper operation of all safety systems.
When selling your Nissan Armada, it is essential to inform the new owner about the presence and function of the pretensioner system. Direct them to the relevant sections of this Owner’s Manual to ensure safe and informed vehicle use.
