Steering Assist in the Nissan Armada is an integral component of the ProPILOT Assist system, designed to enhance driving comfort and stability during highway travel. Before using this feature in the Nissan Armada, it is essential to carefully review the entire ProPILOT Assist section, including system operation details and display indicators, to ensure safe and effective use.

In the Nissan Armada, Steering Assist utilizes a forward-facing camera to continuously monitor clear and well-defined lane markings on both sides of the vehicle. Based on this information, the system helps guide the vehicle to remain centered within its lane. Steering Assist functions in combination with Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), forming a core part of the ProPILOT Assist driving experience in the Nissan Armada.

Steering Assist in the Nissan Armada becomes available only when specific operating conditions are met, ensuring that the system functions reliably and safely:

• ProPILOT Assist is activated in the Nissan Armada.
• Lane markings on both sides of the vehicle are clearly visible and consistently detected.
• The Nissan Armada is traveling above 37 MPH (60 km/h), or a lead vehicle is detected when traveling below this speed.
• The driver maintains hands on the steering wheel at all times.
• The vehicle is positioned near the center of the driving lane.
• Turn signals are not in use.
• The windshield wipers are not operating at high speed, which could interfere with camera visibility.

When road conditions such as sharp curves or strong crosswinds exceed the handling capability of the Steering Assist system, the Nissan Armada will rely on the Intelligent Lane Intervention (I-LI) system. In such situations, the driver will receive visual and audible alerts along with steering wheel vibration, and the system will assist in guiding the vehicle back toward the center of the lane.

How to enable/disable Steering Assist:

NOTE:

For optimal performance of the Nissan Armada Steering Assist system, always ensure that radar sensors, cameras, and sonar sensors are clean and unobstructed. Dirt, ice, or damage to these components, as well as adverse environmental conditions, can significantly reduce system effectiveness.

Steering Assist temporary standby

Automatic standby due to driving operation (for ProPILOT Assist and ProPILOT Assist 1.1):

When the driver activates a turn signal in the Nissan Armada, the Steering Assist system temporarily switches to standby mode. Once the turn signal is canceled and all operating conditions are met again, the system will automatically resume normal operation.

Additional recommendation: Even when Steering Assist is active in the Nissan Armada, the driver should remain fully attentive, keep both hands on the steering wheel, and be prepared to take immediate control in changing traffic or road conditions.

Automatic standby:

In the Nissan Armada, the Steering Assist system is designed to temporarily pause operation when driving conditions fall outside its optimal working range. In such situations, a double chime will sound, and Steering Assist will enter a temporary standby mode. Once normal operating conditions are restored, the system in the Nissan Armada will automatically resume assistance.

• When the current lane becomes too narrow for reliable operation.
• When negotiating tight curves where the Nissan Armada cannot safely maintain lane position using Steering Assist.
• When lane markings on both sides are no longer clearly visible or cannot be detected.
• When no vehicle ahead is detected at speeds below approximately 37 MPH (60 km/h).
• When intense light interferes with the front camera, such as direct sunlight during sunrise or sunset.
• When the temperature of the camera unit becomes excessively high, affecting system performance.

These safeguards in the Nissan Armada ensure that Steering Assist only operates when it can provide accurate and safe support to the driver.

Steering Assist cancel

Under certain conditions, the Nissan Armada Steering Assist system will fully deactivate rather than enter standby mode. In these cases, a double chime will sound, a warning message will appear, and both the Steering Assist status indicator and system indicator will turn off.

• When abnormal or confusing lane markings are detected, or when lane detection becomes unreliable due to conditions such as snow tracks, reflections on wet roads, or overlapping lane markings.
• When the windshield wipers operate continuously at high speed for more than approximately 10 seconds, limiting camera visibility.
• When TOW mode is activated or when the trailer Blind Spot Warning (BSW) function is enabled in the Nissan Armada.

Additional note: These conditions are designed to prevent incorrect steering inputs and maintain safe vehicle control in the Nissan Armada.

Action to take:

Once the conditions causing the system interruption are resolved, the driver can reactivate Steering Assist in the Nissan Armada by using the Steering Assist switch. Always confirm that lane markings are clearly visible and that system indicators show normal operation before relying on the feature again.

Steering Assist malfunction
If a malfunction occurs, the Nissan Armada Steering Assist system will automatically shut down to prevent unsafe operation. A yellow Steering Assist warning indicator will illuminate, and a "Malfunction See Owner's Manual" message will appear in the vehicle information display. Depending on the situation, an audible alert may also sound.

Action to take:

Safely bring the Nissan Armada to a stop, shift the transmission into the P (Park) position, and turn off the engine. After restarting the engine, resume driving and attempt to re-enable the ICC and Steering Assist systems. If the warning indicator remains illuminated, this indicates a system fault.

Although the Nissan Armada can still be driven normally, it is strongly recommended to have the Steering Assist system inspected by an authorized NISSAN dealer as soon as possible to ensure proper functionality and safety.
