Basic information
In the Nissan Armada, the electronic parking brake can also be controlled manually using the dedicated switch, allowing precise control in various driving and parking situations.
To apply: When the Nissan Armada is completely stopped and the ignition switch is in the ON or ACC position, pull the parking brake switch upward.
The indicator light on the switch and the electronic parking brake warning light
(PARK or
(red)) will illuminate, confirming that the parking brake is fully engaged.
To release: With the ignition switch in the ON position, press the brake pedal firmly and push the parking brake switch downward. The indicator light and the electronic parking brake warning light (red) will turn off, indicating that the parking brake has been released.
Before driving your Nissan Armada, always verify that the electronic parking brake warning light is OFF to ensure safe vehicle operation.
NOTE:
- When applying or releasing the electronic parking brake in your Nissan Armada, you may hear a mechanical operating sound from the rear of the vehicle. This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.
- If the parking brake is repeatedly applied and released within a short time, the Nissan Armada system may temporarily disable operation and cause the warning light to blink to prevent overheating. Wait approximately one minute before operating the switch again.
- In an emergency situation while driving, you can apply the Nissan Armada electronic parking brake by pulling and holding the switch upward. Once the switch is released, the parking brake will disengage automatically.
- When the parking brake is activated while the Nissan Armada is moving, a warning chime will sound, and both the red parking brake warning light and switch indicator will illuminate. This behavior is normal. The lights will turn off once the brake is released.
- If the parking brake switch is pulled while the ignition is OFF, the indicator light may remain illuminated briefly. This is part of normal Nissan Armada system operation.
When towing a trailer
When towing with your Nissan Armada, especially on inclines, the combined weight of the vehicle and trailer may cause the vehicle to roll backward when starting from a stop.
In such situations, the Nissan Armada parking brake can be used similarly to a traditional handbrake to help control movement and prevent rollback.
Before moving off on a slope while towing, carefully follow these recommendations to maintain control:
- Release the parking brake switch gradually once the Nissan Armada engine generates sufficient torque to move the vehicle forward smoothly.
Proper use of the Nissan Armada manual parking brake function enhances safety, particularly when maneuvering on slopes or handling additional loads such as trailers.
