Chevrolet Sonic Repair Manual: Tire and Wheel Balancing (Balancing/Wheel Weights)
- Use 3M wheel weights, refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
for application.
- Surface of the wheel must be clean and dry.
- All tire and wheel assemblies are to be checked for static tolerance of
2 grams and not more than 20 grams per plane, using cut-to-length weight produced
by 3M cutting machine.
- Car - Flanged - inboard & outboard – 71 grams per plane.
- Truck - Flanged - inboard & outboard – 142 grams per plane.
- Car - Flangeless - inboard & outboard – 142 grams per plane.
- Truck - Flangeless - inboard & outboard – 170 grams per plane.
- Deflate the reject tire/wheel assembly and break tire bead seat
on wheel.
- Remove any existing correction weights.
- Rotate tire 180 degrees on wheel of reject tire/wheel assembly.
- Soap tire and wheel. Re-inflate tire/wheel assembly and balance
and ensure uniformity is below specifications.
- If the/wheel assembly is rejected again, remove the tire from wheel
and check static balance of wheel.
- If static wheel imbalance is less than 28 grams, return wheel to
production and return tire to the supplier for excessive imbalance.
- After balance is complete, re-measure balance to make sure the specifications
are met.
